Who are we?

Hungry for Knowledge.

I was surfing one day in Manhattan Beach, California when I was called a kook due to my subpar skills paired with an error in my etiquette. This brought be to the concept of the squid.

What is a squid? In the most basic form, someone with limited skill and who tends to put himself at risk. Perhaps someone who is a bit of a hooligan. I don’t know exactly what a squid is to be honest. But I wan’t to break down the labels and angst. Let’s share. Let’s think about why we started riding. Why we still ride. Let’s be humble and try to learn. And for those more learn-ed, share so we can all learn and grow our little squidy tentacles into something worth something.

We are all squids. Some of us squids in the canyons, some squids on the dirt and some squids on the track or on the daily commute. Some try to avoid being seen as a squid at all costs. Maybe that’s all of us. It’s hard to stomach being a squid. But I think every rider’s first day means being a squid or at least seen as one by someone around the block. Let’s be a new cult of squids. Hungry for wisdom. Hungry to change. Hungry to become a big squid and one day, a white-haired squid.
